Omacom Foundation hires Emir Beganović as Head of Infrastructure

We’re hiring Emir Beganović as Head of Infrastructure for Omarchy! He starts November 1 as the Omacom Foundation’s third full-time hire, joining Krzysztof Wilczyński on Kernel and outfoxxed on Shell.

Here’s how Emir describes his own journey to Omarchy:

My love of Linux goes back more than twenty years. I became an Ubuntu developer while still a teenager and was deeply involved in the local community. My career has taken me through three countries, working on reliability and performance in startups and scaleups and leading teams. I spent nearly seven years in Booking.com’s SRE department, leading work on build systems and CI infrastructure. Most recently, I built Isorun, where I’ve been working on microVMs, snapshots, isolation, scheduling, and disposable compute. Now I’m bringing that experience back to my first love.

What really caught my attention about Emir was TryOmarchy. He took the Omarchy desktop, put it in the browser (not a reimplementation, but the real thing), and had it booting in seconds on ordinary CPU infrastructure at Cloudflare. We started talking about that silly experiment, and the conversation quickly expanded to laptops, new architectures, OEMs, and the infrastructure we’ll need if Omarchy is going to run everywhere we want it to. We realized we shared the same vision.

That’s what Emir is coming aboard to lead.

Infrastructure for Omarchy means much more than running servers. It’s what we use to build, test, and ship Omarchy, and to keep the system working reliably as we expand to more hardware and more architectures. It’s making releases dependable, making failures reproducible, and giving everyone else on the project a solid foundation so they can move quickly.

And there’s plenty to explore! Omarchy should work beautifully on the machine sitting on your desk, but there’s no reason it should stop there. TryOmarchy gave us a glimpse of what happens when starting a Linux computer becomes as easy as opening a web page, putting a taste of Linux just one click away. We’re going to see where that leads.
